CHARACTER INTERPRETATION

» Appearance: Juliet is an 18-year-old girl who wears her blond hair in high pigtails with pink scrunchies. She wears her San Romero Knights cheerleadering uniform which is a blue, pink, and purple cropped tank top and a tiny pleated skirt, red leg warmers and white thigh highs with San Romero High up the side of her legs. Juliet has a very bubbly personality to match her high pitched squeaky voice.

» Orientation: Straight. Juliet is in love with her boyfriend, Nick whom she goes out of her way to save by decapitating him with a magical ritual that allows her to then carry around his talking head on her quest. Her affection for him is displayed constantly and she is continuously reminding him that she loves him, even when he wants to get away from the mess of zombies, she uses it as a reason why he can’t.


» Personality:

Upon first meeting Juliet Starling, she comes off as just a peppy teenage girl who loves her boyfriend and lollipops. She’s a cheerleader at San Romero High School in California, but also comes from a rather strange family, which is something she keeps a secret so she doesn’t come off as “a weirdo” to others and can fit in at school. Juliet’s entire family, consisting of her mother, father, an older and a younger sister, are all zombie hunters. Her parents are very supportive of her and believe her to be smart despite her appearance and behavior that often comes off to others as immature. Her mother has taught her to be proud of being a woman and is always checking in on Juliet with reminders to do well or not to do dumb things. Her father is proud of her strategy making skills and supports her relationship with her boyfriend because he believes he must be worthy of his respect if Juliet had chosen him. Her sisters, although both a bit nutty and wild, help her fight throughout her journey and gives her weapons as birthday gifts while still reminding her how cute she looks.


Juliet has a pretty normal life until zombies invade her high school on her 18th birthday- the same day her boyfriend, Nick, is suppose to meet her family for the first time. When arriving to the spot in the school courtyard where she was going to meet up with Nick, he saves her from being attacked by a zombie, but ends up being bit instead. Juliet watches as Nick begins to die and knows that he will turn into a zombie if she doesn’t do something. In an attempt to save his life she decapitates him with her chainsaw and performed a magical ritual, as she described it, that keeps him alive as a talking head that she carries around with her.


Juliet speaks fluent Japanese and has a rather perverted Asian sensei who helps her during the zombie outbreak to discover that everyone in her high school and slowly spreading to the rest of the town, are now zombies. Her sensei explains how another dimension called the Rotten World has infected the Earth with gas that turned students the high school into zombies. Juliet was running late to school that day and therefore was unaffected. There is a bomber from the Rotten World trying to destroy the portal that separates the worlds so it will stay open permanently therefore Juliet, with the help of her sensei and family, has to kill evil zombie purveyors before it spreads to the rest of the world.


Juliet is rather innocent and naive with a unique outlook on things such as being fine with the horrific work she does mutilating zombies with a chainsaw, but finds something like a dead dissected frog gross. Even when speaking about Nick, she sees him as having a simple innocence that she finds cute even though he is usually very blunt and sarcastic. She is very athletic and as a result and can do flips and fights using a bedazzeled chainsaw with ease. She enjoys basketball and baseball as well as cheerleading. In her spare time she loves shopping and her favorite candy is strawberry lollipops which she claims to eat to keep her energy up. While its not greatly elaborated on, Juliet is capable of magic such as being able to give Nick the ability to use and control decapitated bodies as long as she is cheering him on “with magic”.


Juliet’s relationship with her boyfriend, Nick doesn’t end when he no longer has a body, but instead grows stronger. Nick and Juliet have a rather normal teenage relationship despite how they look on the outside. He will defend her when someone disrespects her even when he has forgotten that he no longer has a body and can’t necessarily do anything about it, and she finds this sweet. She carries him around attached to her belt for moral support and he will also help her by occasionally being used as a weapon. He has confidence in her and encourages her as she fights zombies even if he is usually very sarcastic and it will nearly always go over her head. Since becoming a talking decapitated head he had been very down and even found that difficult to do around her because she is so positive and peppy. She will often try to turn any situation into something positive, even a zombie outbreak or having to kill her cheerleading squad whose become zombies, which she later dubs as “sad, but fun”.


Towards the end of her journey Juliet has seen her sensei die, whose ghost continues to call her cell phone and guide her from beyond the grave. At the last evil zombie lord Juilet has to fight, her father sacrifices himself to help her further her quest. Lastly Nick will sacrifice himself for the greater good of humanity and to save the world by being a bomb that destroys a giant zombie from the inside and in turn releases the souls that have become zombies so that people can return to normal. So Juliet is left believing that she has just lost the three men she cared for and respected. However ultimately they prove able to survive, her father with minor scratches (and losing a testicle) and Nick is able to get the body that belonged to her sensei even if it makes him shorter than Juliet.


Her maturity through her quest shows in small ways when she takes on responsibility to save the world. Still she never fails to show her teenage mindset with her valley girl mentality towards caring about cute outfits and making up cheers as she fights. Juliet does reveal through her comments that she is very self conscious of her weight and one of her secret kinks is being told that she isn’t fat. Flattery will get you very far with her if you’re complimenting her looks and aren’t perverted about it. She will say offensive things while fighting before immediately apologizing (to zombies) for what she said being insensitive. Still the random obscene comments like ‘killing zombies gives me wood’ will come from her, which leads you to believe that she might not be so innocent after all.
